WELCOME TO

316 (Leigh) Squadron

“Welcome to 316 (Leigh) Squadron Air Training Corps. As the Royal Air Force Air Cadets footprint within Leigh where we provide opportunities to our local young people. The aims of our organisation are as follows:

To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the RAF

To provide training which will be useful in both the services and civilian life

To foster the spirit of adventure and to help develop the qualities of leadership and citizenship.

These opportunities are delivered by a highly motivated team of passionate Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers who share their evenings and weekends to ensure our cadets have the best opportunities available.

We are co-located with the Leigh Army Cadet Force at our shared site just off Leigh Road (Next to Kwik Fit). The squadron is a part of the Greater Manchester Wing that was formed in 2011.

The Squadron takes its number from 316 (City of Warsaw) Squadron RAF that was established during the Second World War. Our squadron motto is Secunda Vita, meaning ‘Second Life’ as an homage to our RAF predecessors.”

– Flt Lt Calum Smith, Officer Commanding 316 Squadron
